1. Create a Square Account

First of all, you need to sign up for a Square account. There are two ways you can set up a Square account:

  • Create an account with minimal setup (fast track development). Developers can create a Square account in a couple of steps with minimal information (an email address). This enables developers to test all Square APIs and start developing. The only task you cannot do is process payments in production using the Payments API (you can test payments in the Square Sandbox). You have the option to later activate this account for payment processing in production. To activate your Square account for payments, see squareup.com/activate.

  • Create an account with complete setup. If you intend to process payments in production, you must complete the Square account setup. For step-by-step instructions, seeLet’s create your account.

2. Create an application in the Developer Dashboard

After you already have a Square account, the next step is to go to the Applications page, create an application by choosing the + (Plus) button, then enter your application name (for example, Magestore POS) in the Application Name box, and then choose Save.

3. Review an application’s configuration

After creating the application, you can review an application’s configuration by choosing an existing application. In the left navigation pane, there is information about Credentials, OAuth, Webhooks that will be used to configure Square Terminal in the Backend.
