How to Set up Star Printer TSP650 for Windows
Magestore POS is using PWA technology, which means it can run on a browser of a computer. If you want to connect Star Printer TSP650 to the POS, you basically need to set up the device and software on the computer where you run the POS.
In this guide, we only give instructions for the setup on Windows operating system. And we use LAN network to connect Star Printer to the computer.
Here is the setup:
Here you can take the following actions to set up the device successfully:
Step 1: Download Star Utility
After you receive the Star TSP 650 Thermal Printer, you will need to download and install the latest Printer Driver Software. This is a specialized software that helps the printer run correctly on your computer.
Important
First, make sure you are downloading the driver for the correct printer. The Model Number on the bottom of the printer should be TSP650. Check your model here.
Go to Star’s website and fill out the product information.
Product Type: Thermal
Printer Family: TSP650
Printer Model (Auto-fill): TSP650
Interface: Ethernet (Guide to identify interface)
Operating System: Because Magestore POS works best on Windows OS and it’s easy to set up and configure, so we recommend you using Windows OS. In this guide, we only guide you to connect the Star Printer with Windows OS computer.
Choose the option Windows 8 / 7 / Vista / XP.Language (Auto-fill): English
After filling all the information, scroll down to the recommended drivers to download.
In the Drivers section, choose your suitable driver file.
Tips
We recommend you to download the StarPRNT Lite for Windows 32-bit or 64-bit (depends on your computer). The FULL CD version will have a sample app for your reference. So basically you just need to download the lite version to save some spaces and unnecessary storage.
3. Click the link to download.
Step 2: Install the Star driver
When this download is complete, you need to install a driver like a normal application.
Extract the file > Go to folder Setup > Run file Setup.exe.
After installing, run the app named Printer Utility StarPRNT on your computer.
Here is the name of the software in your computer programs.
Now you’re done with the installation. Let’s move to the next step.
Step 3: Connect to PC
Once you’ve installed Star driver, you will connect the printer with your computer by USB port or Ethernet depending on your printer type.
When the Printer Connection Wizard opens, select TSP654, and keep it in Star Line Mode.
Select the correct port, USB or Serial. If you are not sure, double-check via this guide.
For example, we use LAN network, so we choose Ethernet here. Click on Search Network.
Click Search Network > Wait for the system to autofill the IP Address.
Make sure your device connects correctly with the network.
After finishing the search, here is the result.
Click Done. Then a popup will appear to ask you to enter a name for this printer connection.
You can edit or leave the printer name as it is and click Done.
Step 4: Set the Printer to Default Printer
The app screen will display options for you to configure printer settings. Click to Windows Printer Queue Management to start setting the printer to default.
Click Add to add a new printer. Enter the name you want to distinguish this Printer.
Your new printer will appear in the list.
Now the printer is ready to use. Access to your POS and check out as normal. Complete the order and print receipt with this Star Printer.
